Are you the type of person who enjoys taking a walk and getting lost? Do you like to wander around, or do you think this type of walking is pointless? Some people only want to walk if they have a place to go. Other people enjoy a relaxing stroll with no place to go. Both types of walking are good for a person’s health.
People walk for many reasons. For example, some people like to walk to work every day. This can be calming, and it is a good way to get extra exercise. Going on hikes is another way to enjoy walking. You can explore a mountain or other natural place on a hike. Often, you will find a great vista point with a beautiful view.
Gary and Brian are talking about walking. Gary walks everyday because it is soothing. Find out more in today’s English lesson about going for walks.

Gary: Brian, did you know that every single morning on my way to work, I go for a nice long walk.
Brian: Oh, you walk to work.
Gary: No, I go for a calming, relaxing walk. And then I go to work.
Brian: But you’re not walking because your destination is your work place?
Gary: No, I do it because it’s a habit, and I just relax when I do it. It’s really soothing.
Brian: Doesn’t that seem kind of pointless? The only time I ever wander is when I’m lost or when I’m not sure where I’m going. And that is so frustrating.
Gary: So, you don’t like walking and getting lost while walking?
Brian: I like walking somewhere, but I don’t understand the stroll or the meandering walk that folks go on.
Gary: I think that my favorite type of walking is in the woods. So, a relaxing walk in the woods, hanging out in the woods, and then heading home.
Brian: I guess that makes sense. I do like to go on hikes, which is similar. But usually the hikes I go on have a destination. They have a really nice vista point.
Gary: Sure. Yeah, that’s not a mundane kind of walk. That’s actually really enjoyable.
